National Meeting Marks Diamond Jubilee of Chongryon
Pyongyang, May 26 (KCNA) -- A national meeting was held at the People's Palace of Culture Monday, the 60th anniversary of the formation of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon).

Present there were Yang Hyong Sop, Kim Yang Gon, Vice-premier Kim Yong Jin, Kim Yong Dae, chairman of the C.C., the Korean Social Democratic Party, Pae Ik Ju, vice-chairman of the Central Standing Committee of Chongryon, officials of public organizations, officials concerned, officials of ministries and national institutions, working people from all walks of life in Pyongyang, those related to Chongryon, a group of Koreans in Japan for expressing thanks to the homeland on the 60th anniversary of Chongryon and its delegations and overseas compatriots.

Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, made a report.

He said that Chongryon is the first Juche-type overseas compatriots' body personally organized and led by President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il and a dignified overseas citizens' body of the DPRK.

He went on:

The President considered the overseas compatriots' movement as an important part of the Korean revolution and gave origin to the Juche-based overseas compatriots' movement long ago.

The formation of Chongryon was a shining fruition of the President's idea of the Juche-based overseas compatriots' movement and his leadership and a historic event that brought about a fundamental turn in the movement of Koreans in Japan and in carving out the destiny of the Koreans in Japan and that injected fresh life into the development of overall overseas compatriots' movement of Korea and the overseas compatriots' movement in the world.

The Juche-based overseas compatriots' movement pioneered by the President developed in depth on a new higher stage despite severe storm and stress of history under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.

He clearly indicated tasks and ways for victoriously advancing Chongryon and the movement of Koreans in Japan with his foresight.

Recalling that the President and Kim Jong Il formed Chongryon, a result of Juche, by founding original idea and theory on solving the issue of overseas compatriots and successfully embodying them and developed it into a patriotic pioneer, an example of patriotic loyalty and a model of the world overseas compatriots' movement, the reporter stressed that their revolutionary feats will last forever.

Chongryon and the movement of Koreans in Japan which have covered the road of victory along the orbit of Juche under the care of the peerlessly great persons of Mt. Paektu are greeting a new heyday of their development as they are led by Marshal Kim Jong Un, the reporter said, and went on:

Kim Jong Un's letter "Let Us Usher In a New Heyday of the Movement of Koreans in Japan True to the Intention of the Great Comrade Kim Jong Il" to Chongryon and Koreans resident in Japan marking the 60th anniversary of Chongryon is an encyclopedia for the movement of Koreans in Japan as it comprehends the great Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il's ideas and theories on the Juche-based overseas compatriots' movement. And it is the height of noble compatriotism and patriotism.

The DPRK government highly appreciates the feats Chongryon and Koreans in Japan have performed before the country and the nation over the past six decades and deems it great joy and pride to have an excellent overseas compatriots' body and overseas compatriots.

Pae Ik Ju said in a speech that the President and Kim Jong Il were the tender-hearted fathers and protectors of the destiny of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan as they held Chongryon dearest and took warmest care of it all their lives.

It is the true patriotic road and the road of eternal victory to hold Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il in high esteem as the eternal sun of Juche and remain true to the leadership of Kim Jong Un, Pae noted, adding that this is the unshakable faith of the officials of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan.
