Korean Folk Song "Arirang" Introduced by Austrian Organization
Pyongyang, May 24 (KCNA) -- The Society for the Promotion of the Relations between Austria and the DPRK posted on its website an article titled "'Arirang' and Korean nation" on May 17.

The article said:

"Arirang" is a typical folk song loved by the Korean nation.

During the colonial rule of Korea by the Japanese imperialists the song reflected the resistance of the Koreans against the aggressors.

The Korean people built new democratic Korea after its liberation and pushed forward the postwar reconstruction and socialist construction, singing this song.

Songs "Arirang of Songun" and "Arirang of Prosperity" were also created and sung by the Koreans.

Those songs highly praised the exploits of leader Kim Jong Il who defended the destiny of the county and the nation, and reflected the happiness of the Korean people enjoying their lives in socialist Korea.

Koreans in the north and the south and overseas sang the song "Arirang of Reunification" with the ardent yearnings for the reunification in the nation's joint events for reunification.

Korean folk song "Arirang" was registered as a typical intangible cultural heritage of humanity at the 9th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the UNESCO held in Paris.
