International Women's Grand March Starts
Pyongyang, May 23 (KCNA) -- The 2015 international women's grand march for reunification and peace in Korea started here.

A starting ceremony took place before the Monument to the Three Charters for National Reunification on Saturday.

Present there were Kim Jong Suk, chairwoman of the Korean Committee for Solidarity with the World People who doubles as chairwoman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, women in Pyongyang and members of a delegation to the 2015 international women's grand march for reunification and peace in Korea.

Irish anti-war peace activist Maguire Mairead addressed the ceremony.

She expressed on behalf of the delegation bitter feelings towards the untold sufferings and disasters suffered by the Korean women, which are attributable to the past Korean war and the war moves that persisted even after the war.

She noted that many members of the delegation are from the countries which either joined the war or are responsible for Korea's division that has lasted seven decades.

She underscored the need to make the disaster of the war as past thing.

Kim Jong Suk made a congratulatory speech.

She expressed belief that the grand march would serve as an important occasion for eliciting more international support for reunification and peace in Korea and demonstrating the united strength of women.

And a declaration of the international women's grand march for reunification and peace in Korea was read out.

The declaration said that the progressive women in the world would advance hand in hand with the Korean women and continue the grand march for lasting peace and security in the world.

The participants left for Kaesong amid warm congratulations of women in Pyongyang.
