Japanese Police Authorities' Crackdown upon Officials of Chongryon Slammed
Tokyo, May 21 (KNS-KCNA) -- Officials of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) in Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Shiga, Nara and Wakayama on May 18 launched an action outside the building of the Kyoto Prefectural Police Headquarters in protest against the Japanese police authorities' unreasonable arrest of Chongryon officials.

Kim Hak Bok, chairman of the Kyoto Prefectural Headquarters of Chongryon, who headed the protest group, read out a protest letter.

The letter recalled that the Joint Investigation Headquarters under the Kyoto Prefectural Police Headquarters staged an operation to arrest officials of Chongryon under the pretext of the violation of the "law on foreign exchange" on May 12 in a despicable effort to discourage Koreans in Japan alive with a drive to greet the 60th anniversary of the formation of Chongryon, adding they would never tolerate the move.

It demanded the police authorities stop the vicious politically-motivated crackdown upon Koreans in Japan and human rights abuses and immediately release the groundlessly arrested Koreans in Japan.

Then, the participants in the protest action thronged to the Fushimi, Yamashina and Ukyo police stations to lodge a strong protest with the police authorities against their brutal crackdown upon Chongryon.
