DPRK-Russia Friendship Symposium
Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- A DPRK-Russia friendship symposium took place at Kim Il Sung University on May 19 to mark the year for friendship between the two countries.

The symposium, the first of its kind, exchanged the achievements and views made by Kim Il Sung University and Russia's universities in the education and study of Korean and Russian languages and laid a scientific foundation for intensifying the philological education and study between the two countries.

It also helped deepen the bilateral friendship and promote academic exchanges in a many-sided way.

Yun Nam, dean of a faculty of Kim Il Sung University, told KCNA that the participants in the symposium came to have a common understanding that the close cooperation between educational institutions of the two countries would promote the development of the DPRK-Russia friendly and cooperative relations. And he expressed hope that Kim Il Sung University and various universities of Russia would make new successes in the educational and scientific studies and intensify their many-sided academic exchanges.

V. A. Stepanenko, rector of the Russian Language and Literature Institute under Moscow Lomonosov State University, noted that many teachers of Russia had worked in the DPRK with good impressions.

The development of Korean version of general textbook "The Way to Russia" is associated with the feats of DPRK students who studied at universities of Russia, he said, hoping that the symposium would serve as a new occasion in developing the joint work between the two countries.

Alexandr Matsegora, Russian ambassador to the DPRK, said the symposium marked an important occasion in further promoting the cooperation and exchange between universities of the two countries, adding that Kim Il Sung University has long and strong ties of friendship with many universities of Russia.
