Japan Drives DPRK-Japan Relations to Worst Phase: DPRK Scholar
Pyongyang, May 15 (KCNA) -- Japan has been hell-bent on the moves against the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), driving the DPRK-Japan relations to the worst phase.

In this regard, Dr. Sin Pun Jin of the Law College under Kim Il Sung University told KCNA:

The recent arrest and search against Chongryon officials are a revelation of Japan's sinister scenario to stamp out Chongryon at any cost by branding it as the force intent on "illegal acts".

The fascist outrage, human rights abuses and national discrimination against Chongryon and the Korean residents in Japan have been committed without any legal ground in Japan, which styles itself "law-governed state".

At the DPRK-Japan inter-governmental talks held in Stockholm of Sweden in May 2014, the Japanese side agreed to have a sincere discussion on the status of the Korean residents in Japan under the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration.

However, the Japanese authorities are fanning up the anti-Chongryon and anti-Korean sentiments among the Japanese, instead of implementing the agreements.

Chongryon has played the role of a diplomatic mission representing the DPRK in Japan as there is no diplomatic relations between the two countries. The moves to stamp out Chongryon are, in the final analysis, a deliberate attempt to aggravate the bilateral relations, a vivid expression of Japan's hostile policy toward the DPRK.

The Japanese government has due legal obligation and moral responsibility to protect the human rights and sphere of life of the Korean residents in Japan as they are descendants of Koreans forcibly drafted by the Japanese imperialists in the past.

With no rhetoric can Japan justify the sordid political suppression of the Korean residents and Chongryon.

Japan should behave itself, clearly mindful that its persecution and crackdown upon Chongryon and Korean residents is a grave provocation to the DPRK and a suicidal act of darkening the prospect of DPRK-Japan relations.
