Lettuce Good for Health
Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- Lettuce is one of vegetables that the Koreans have cultivated away back the middle ages.

It is very good to whet appetite in such hot weather as now, Dr. Pak Hyong Bom of the Life Science Faculty of Kim Il Sung University told KCNA, adding:

An old book of China says that lettuce seed presented by an envoy of Koryo Kingdom (918-1392) is worth a thousand pounds.

The Koreans have taken lettuce with peppered bean paste to stimulate their appetite and stand the hot weather in the period from spring to autumn.

Lettuce contains vitamins A, B1 and C, calcium, iron and essential amino acid. Its moderate intake helps prevent anemia, but excessive intake produces a bad effect on parturient women and infants.

In recent years Okryu Restaurant and other catering service establishments in the country have served dishes made with lettuce.
