The Afro-Asian Conference, which was held in Indonesia for the first time 60 years ago, was a historic assembly of weighty significance in helping the peoples of the two continents, who had been pushed out of history in the past, hew out their destiny as the masters of the world, Kim said, noting that the spirit of Bandung Conference is encouraging the peoples of the Afro-Asian countries in their efforts to build an independent world.

He referred to the fact that President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il conducted energetic external activities, rendering unreserved support and encouragement to the Afro-Asian countries' national liberation struggle and building of new society.

The noble feats the President and Kim Jong Il performed for the human cause of independence are being successfully carried forward and developed by Marshal Kim Jong Un, he said, and went on:

Consistent is the stand of the DPRK government to boost the bonds of friendship and solidarity with the peoples of the Afro-Asian countries, true to the intention of the President, Kim Jong Il and Kim Jong Un.

The invasion, military threat, sanctions, pressure and all forms of interference in internal affairs of other countries by some specified states under various pretexts in the new century, unfair international economic order and the negative effect of "globalization" require the Afro-Asian countries to boost comprehensive cooperation and bonds in the fields of politics, economy and social culture to achieve peace and prosperity by their concerted efforts.

Kim Yong Nam pointed to the issues to which the summit should pay attention.

The situation on the Korean peninsula remains so tense that a war may break out anytime due to the U.S. anachronistic hostile policy toward the DPRK and the former's reckless confrontation hysteria, he said, and continued:

It is nonsensical and hypocritical for the U.S. to talk about dismantlement of nukes and "human rights" as it has the biggest stockpile of nuclear weapons in the world and is the only country which inflicted a nuclear disaster upon mankind and is recognized as the worst tundra of human rights.

The U.S. is seeking an ulterior aim to deter the DPRK from making peaceful development and stifle it through threat of military aggression and political and economic pressure on it and, furthermore, lay a springboard for carrying out its strategy for world domination.

The DPRK's efforts to build an economic power and improve the standard of the people's living urgently require a peaceful environment.

Peace dear to us can never be achieved for only desiring and begging for it.

A war is averted and peace be preserved on the Korean peninsula where interests of big powers are intertwined and the U.S. is resorting to frantic war moves against the DPRK. This is entirely ascribable to the powerful war deterrence including nuclear force the DPRK bolstered up in every way by dint of the Songun politics.

A great heyday of creation and construction is being ushered in and a great turn effected in the building of a thriving socialist nation and highly civilized nation in the DPRK thanks to the outstanding and tested leadership of Kim Jong Un.

Such efforts of the DPRK will contribute to defending peace and security not only on the Korean peninsula but in the region and other parts of the world and boosting south-south cooperation to inject a new life into the new Afro-Asian strategic partnership.

We are making all sincere efforts to bring about a great turn in the north-south relations this year marking the 70th anniversary of Korea's liberation but a stumbling block is still lying in the way of mending the inter-Korean relations and reunifying the country owing to the anti-reunification attitude of the south Korean authorities keen on confrontation with the compatriots in the north through cooperation with foreign forces.

The situation remains complicated and we are facing difficulties but we will pave a broad avenue to independent reunification through the great national unity and build a dignified, prosperous reunified powerful nation on this land without fail.

The DPRK government will make all efforts to boost the friendly and cooperative relations with the Afro-Asian countries and build an independent, peaceful and prosperous new world, Kim concluded.
