Head of DPRK Delegation Expresses Will to Make Every Effort for Peace and Stability in Korea
Pyongyang, April 4 (KCNA) -- Choe Jin Su, presidium member of the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of Korea who is leading the delegation of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, made a speech at the 132nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union on March 31.

Expressing belief that the assembly would be a significant one conducive to setting the sustainable development goal since 2015, he referred to the achievements made in implementing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) the core of which is poverty eradication adopted in 2000.

The period was particularly difficult time for the DPRK but the Korean people have made positive efforts to implement the MDGs in conformity with their actual situation, he said, and went on:

Existence and sustainable development of mankind would be unthinkable without peace and security.

The main tasks of the DPRK at present are to turn the DPRK into an economic power and improve people's living standard.

We urgently need peaceful environment to ensure sustainable development of economy and achieve the goals for building a thriving nation.

We assert that the only way of preventing war and ensuring peace and stability on the Korean peninsula is to replace the Armistice Agreement with a peace treaty, reject confrontation of social systems between the north and the south and achieve national reunification by co-existing through the application of federal formula.

The U.S. should stop at once the vicious moves to infringe upon the sovereignty of the DPRK and its right to existence and the war drills for aggression on the Korean peninsula and in its vicinity.

The Korean people will make every effort to defend peace and stability on the Korean peninsula, achieve independent and peaceful reunification of the country and bring about signal successes in the building of a thriving nation.
