Rodong Sinmun Marks 67th Anniversary of April 3 Popular Uprising on Jeju Island
Pyongyang, April 3 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Friday devotes an article to the 67th anniversary of the April 3 popular uprising on Jeju Island.

The U.S. imperialists illegally occupied south Korea and their policy to turn south Korea into their colony and the moves to split the Korean nation got ever more undisguised in 1948, the article notes, and goes on:

They cooked up a separate "government" in south Korea to justify their colonial rule and perpetuate the national division.

Residents on Jeju Island held a meeting to protest against the election for separate "government". Much upset by this, the U.S. imperialists and their lackeys suppressed the peaceful meeting by force of arms. The angry participants of the meeting launched an anti-U.S. struggle on Yon Peak of Mt. Halla at two on April 3.

The April 3 popular uprising on Jeju Island was a mass resistance which recorded a brilliant page in the history of the south Korean people's struggle. It fully demonstrated the ardent desire and strong will not to live as colonial slaves of foreign forces.

Nearly seven decades have passed since the popular uprising, but the outside forces' colonial rule over south Korea is going on and Korea remains partitioned.

This is attributable to the U.S. domination over south Korea and its policy for aggression and the fascist dictatorship of the pro-U.S. conservative forces and their moves to escalate confrontation with the fellow countrymen in the north.

South Korean people will never be free from misfortune and pain and the danger of war will always prevail on the Korean peninsula as long as south Korea is under the U.S. military occupation and domination and the sycophants and traitors are allowed to stay to kowtow to the aggressors.
