South Korean Authorities' Suppression of Progressive Media under Fire
Pyongyang, March 16 (KCNA) -- The committee for founding and developing Jaju Ilbo of south Korea and its staff members held a press conference before the Seoul City Office on Mar. 5 to denounce the puppet conservative group's suppression of media.

Speakers at the press conference accused the Seoul City Office of taking such fascist action as imposing three month suspension of publication on Jaju Ilbo, successor to the internet paper Jaju Minbo, in the wake of a final decision made by the supreme court to shut down it.

The "Saenuri Party" and other conservative groups worked hard to shut down Jaju Minbo and pressurized the mayor of Seoul to cancel the registration of Jaju Ilbo and suspend its publication, they noted.

They deplored that they couldn't say there are democracy and human rights in south Korea where no freedom of speech and expression is guaranteed.

They called upon the progressive forces to turn out in the struggle against the authorities' acts of stamping out the freedom of expression.

Then a statement was made public.

The present conservative ruling forces will not hold in check the activities of progressive media for independence, democracy, reunification and people's livelihood, the statement said.
