The Unjong High-Tech Development Park began to be formed in some parts of Unjong District, Pyongyang City, under the July Juche 103 (2014) decree of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly.

According to Ri Mun Ho, vice-director of the Unjong High-Tech Industry Company, it is their goal to turn the Unjong science area into a model of the nation's knowledge-based economy building, a high-tech development park with strong competitive power in Northeast Asia.

A work now goes on at the final stage to draw out the master plan for the development of the park and regulations for its establishment and operation. Meanwhile, efforts are paid to establishing the Unjong IT Company and the Ryugyong Software Company, opening Internet homepage, building an international sci-tech exchange house and creating a model joint venture enterprise.

The Unjong science area is very favorable for establishing the high-tech development park as it has national scientific institutes and University of Sciences as well as experience in developing and manufacturing high-tech products. The place is also easy of access as Pyongyang International Airport and Nampho Port are within tens of kilometers from it.

At present, not a few foreign investors have expressed their interest in the development of the park.
