National Circus of DPRK
Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- On the International Women's Day, the National Circus gave a performance at the Pyongyang Circus Theater, drawing great admiration from audience.

The circus, known as one of world's famous circuses, boasts of a long tradition.

President Kim Il Sung initiated the founding of a national acrobatic troupe on March 5, Juche 41 (1952) when the country was in the state of war, regarding the development of acrobatics as an important part in the overall development of the nation's art.

And he clarified such issues as finding out and developing traditional acrobatic pieces as required by the times, selecting and training acrobats and providing facilities and took measures for them.

In the first year after foundation, the troupe created 11 acrobatic pieces, including "Rope Walking", "Foot Tricks" and "On Iron Wire", making performance tours of the front and the rear.

The circus has proved successful at many international circus festivals.

This year alone, its acrobats were awarded gold prizes at the 39th Monte Carlo International Acrobatic Festival in Monaco and the Gold Elephant Prize at the 4th Figueras International Circus Festival.
