January 15th of Lunar Calendar, Folk Holiday
Pyongyang, March 4 (KCNA) -- From olden times, the Korean people have enjoyed the January 15th of the lunar calendar as a folk holiday.

In the evening of the day, they have enjoyed a full moon with a desire for rich harvest and happiness.

According to historical data, it was a custom to take sweet rice dish on the day in the period of the Three Kingdoms (3rd century B.C.-7th century A.D.).

In the period of Koryo Dynasty (918-1392), the January 15th of the lunar calendar was one of nine folk holidays.

The Korean people ate noodle on the eve of the January 15th.

Included in the menu for the January 15th of lunar calendar were dishes cooked with nine kinds of dried edible herbs, laver-wrapped rice and taffy.

Meanwhile, people enjoyed the day, playing tug of war, kite-flying, and other folk games.

The January 15th of the lunar calendar falls on March 5 this year.
