Research into Insam Intensified in DPRK
Pyongyang, February 11 (KCNA) -- Kaesong Koryo Insam (ginseng) of Korea is well known to the world as a tonic.

It has been recently confirmed that hair root of insam, too, is of high medical effect.

In this regard, Ri Song Suk, section chief of the DPRK Academy of Koryo Medicine, told KCNA:

The hair root of insam means fibril after the process of insam. The research results showed that the fibril contains much more saponin, a main active component of insam, than its body root.

Steamed insam has more than 9 kinds of saponin in its main, lateral and hair roots, and this content is higher in hair root than main root.

Dried insam contains 2.1 percent saponin in main root and 9.25 percent in hair root.

We are now intensifying the research into the process of insam hair root to preserve its medical effect.
