Kunjari Spirit Created in 1950s
Pyongyang, February 9 (KCNA) -- The Kunjari spirit now inspires the army and people in the DPRK to the final victory in building a thriving nation.

This spirit was created during the 1950-1953 Fatherland Liberation War by workers in Kunja-ri of the country, who had produced weaponry and ammunition for the war victory. It is characterized with the spirit of devotedly defending the leader, the spirit of self-reliance and fortitude, the self-sacrificing spirit and the revolutionary optimism.

In hearty response to President Kim Il Sung's call "Everything for victory in the war!", those workers at a munitions factory located in tunnels of Kunja-ri had produced weaponry and ammunition days and nights even by operating machines manually.

Most of them were women, and they conducted a multi-machine tending campaign, with one operating even six machines.

The factory organized a death-defying corps with 20 workers, who finished assembling 750 sets of submachine guns in six days.

During the war, Kim Il Sung visited the factory on several occasions to encourage its workers to increased production. He saw to it that a bath-house and a clinic were opened to service in the tunnels.

The factory produced the first awardee of the title of DPRK Labor Hero in the field of munitions industry and established a study-while-working educational system for the first time in the country.

The Kunjari spirit has served as an inspiring banner for the Korean workers.
