Phyongchon Revolutionary Site Draws Many Visitors
Pyongyang, February 7 (KCNA) -- Service personnel of the Korean People's Army and the Korean People's Internal Security Forces, officials and people of different social standings and school youth and children visit the Phyongchon Revolutionary Site in Pyongyang every day on the occasion of the birthday of the Korean regular revolutionary armed forces (February 8).

The revolutionary site is associated with the undying Songun exploits of President Kim Il Sung who explored the untrodden path of building the Juche-oriented defence industry to create regular armed forces after the liberation of Korea.

After singling out army building as one of the three major tasks for building a new country he attached primary significance to the building of powerful defence industry. The first ordinance factory was built on debris in the place (the then Phyongchon-ri) after the liberation of the country under his leadership.

There is a mosaic depicting the President, leader Kim Jong Il and anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk in the revolutionary site. In June, Juche 38 (1949) the President visited the factory and fired a submachine-gun produced by workers by their own efforts and with indigenous technology and locally available materials. They were confident of the rosy future of Songun Korea.

He awarded submachine-guns of different types which had been presented by workers of the factory to anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters and had a photo taken with them. On display in the revolutionary site are the historic photo and other photos and historic relics used by the President when test-firing the submachine-gun.
