Feats of KPA Guards Units (5)
Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- The Seoul Guards 3rd Infantry Division of the Korean People's Army (KPA) is well-known for having performed distinguished feats in the 1950-1953 Fatherland Liberation War.

From the beginning of the war, the division moved in the main front, making big contributions to liberating Phochon, Uijongbu, Seoul and Taejon.

In July Juche 39 (1950), the unit was awarded the title of Guards.

The division dealt deadly blow to the U.S. aggression forces and the south Korean puppet army in many battles it fought in Yongdong, Kimchon, Mt. Suam and other areas. It also took part in the Raktong River-crossing operation.

In a battle to seize Height 339 in Kosong area in July 1953, the unit produced seven awardees of the title of DPRK Hero, greatly contributing to the conclusion of the war in victory for the DPRK.

When visiting this unit in December 2000, leader Kim Jong Il praised the feats it performed in the war, saying that its colors is associated with the precious soul of revolutionary forerunners who dedicated their lives to the Party and the leader, the motherland and people.

Early in January this year, Kim Jong Un, supreme commander of the KPA, said with satisfaction that there is something extraordinary in the guards unit when soldiers of the division destroyed the pillbox target under sudden conditions in a recoilless gun firing contest of sub-units directly under the infantry divisions of the first echelons of the KPA frontline corps.

The supreme commander personally awarded a diploma of crack-shot to the division and crack-shot medals and badges to its soldiers. And he noted that the first master gunners for 2015 emerged from the unit where the spirit of a-match-for-a-hundred was created and that it fought bravely for the Party, revolution, country and its people in the last Fatherland Liberation War, urging its soldiers to steadily glorify the honor of guards unit by inheriting the tradition of their forerunners.
