Feats of KPA Guards Units (3)
Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- The Guards 2nd Torpedo Boat Squadron of the Korean People's Army is well known for creating a myth in the world history of sea battles during the 1950-1953 Korean War.

The squadron of four torpedo boats engaged in a battle against the U.S. detached fleet with 17 300-ton heavy cruiser "Baltimore" as a capital ship in the waters off Jumunjin in the early morning of July 2, Juche 39 (1950).

The squadron worked a world-startling miracle by torpedoing "Baltimore" and damaging the light cruiser, which has been unprecedented in the history of sea battles.

The Navy of the Korean People's Army was founded on August 28, 1949. At that time, President Kim Il Sung inspected the squadron, encouraging its seamen to equip themselves with high fighting spirit and unrivaled bravery.

The squadron was awarded the title of Guards in August 1950.

When inspecting the squadron in April 2012, Supreme Commander Kim Jong Un praised the unit for its feats, calling upon the seamen of the unit to steadfastly carry on the revolutionary spirit of their forerunners.
