Various games including basketball, volleyball, table-tennis, skiing and speed skating will take place in Pyongyang, Phyongsong and Sariwon cities, Samjiyon and Pujon counties during the contest.

Present at the opening ceremony were Choe Ryong Hae, secretary of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea, officials concerned and sports persons in Pyongyang.

Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Kim Yong Hun in an opening address said that all players and coaches should achieve good successes in the contest, true to the intention of the party to put the country's sports on the world level at an early date.

The ceremony was followed by men's basketball game between the Pyongyang Sports Team and the Sports Team of Kim Chaek University of Technology.
