Rodong Sinmun Discloses Sinister Aims Sought by U.S. in Straining Situation on Korean Peninsula
Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- When looking back upon the past history and seeing the reality, one can realize that the U.S. has disliked any process to improve the inter-Korean relations and run the whole gamut of evil acts to nip in the bud any sign of efforts to do so, says Rodong Sinmun Monday in a commentary.

What the U.S. wants is not peace and reunification but the escalation of tension and permanent division of the Korean peninsula, the commentary notes, and goes on:

First of all, the U.S. seeks to justify its forces' presence in south Korea.

Because it regards south Korea as a springboard and bridgehead for provoking another Korean war.

If the north-south relations are mended, their story about "threat from the DPRK" will lose its justification. And in that case the U.S. will find it difficult to press the south Korean regime to cover greater share of upkeep for the U.S. forces present in south Korea and insist on their continued presence.

The U.S. also seeks to dominate Northeast Asia and other parts of Asia-Pacific.

There are several big powers around the Korean peninsula. They are steadily increasing their influence and expanding the sphere of forces in Northeast Asia and other parts of Asia-Pacific.

Much upset by this, Washington is massively beefing up its forces there to contain other big powers. It is citing "threat from the DPRK" for this arms build-up.

The U.S. artificially divided the Korean peninsula and has craftily worked to freeze the split, throwing hurdles in the way of improving the north-south relations whenever there was a sign of any process to repair them.

It is, indeed, a heinous harasser of reunification, wrecker of peace and sworn enemy of the Korean nation.
