Ruling Forces Slammed for Orchestrating Disbandment of Progressive Party
Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) -- The Headquarters of the Movement of the South Jolla Province for Defending Democracy of south Korea and the Solidarity for Progress of the South Jolla Province held a press conference in Kwangju on January 23 at which they denounced the authorities for clamping down the progressive forces, according to the south Korean internet newspaper Voice of People.

Speakers said at the press conference that the supreme court at a trial of Ri Sok Gi, lawmaker from the former Unified Progressive Party, and others concerned on January 22 said that "no underground revolutionary organization" existed and there was no suspicion of attempted rebellion but gave a strange verdict that there was agitation of rebellion.

This overturned the decision of the "constitutional court," they held.

They condemned the "constitutional court" for making the decision on disbanding the political party in disregard of the law and procedures.

The Seoul Solidarity for Progress also staged a protest on January 24.

The organization said that the above-said decision was an action to stamp out democracy.

Members of the organization staged a demonstration from Jongro District to Tapgol Park in demand of the release of Ri Sok Gi, the abolition of the SL and the guarantee of the freedom of political activities.
