S. Korean Public Protests against Decision to Dissolve Progressive Political Party
Pyongyang, January 27 (KCNA) -- The Human Rights Center of the south Korean Council of Christian Churches on Jan. 24 released a statement condemning the injustice of the decision made by the "constitutional court" to disorganize the Unified Progressive Party (UPP), according to the south Korean CBS.

The statement recalled that the Supreme Court at a trial of Ri Sok Gi, former lawmaker from the party, clarified that the "underground revolutionary organization" did not exist and that there was no suspicion of the attempted rebellion.

This brought to light the facts that all evidence produced by the "constitutional court" as the reason for disbanding the party in December last year was groundless and the decision to dissolve it was obviously the politically-motivated ruling, it added.

Meanwhile, former lawmakers from UPP held a press conference outside the "constitutional court" on January 23 at which they held that it lost the reason for disbanding the party, according to the south Korean KBS.

Members of civic and social bodies such as the Solidarity for Progress have staged actions for the release of Ri in Seoul since Jan. 22.
