Osvaldo Larriva Alvarado, chairman of the Ecuadorian committee for remembering Kim Jong Il, was elected chairman of the preparatory committee.

The preparatory committee decided to organize multifarious political and cultural events praising the sacred revolutionary life and undying feats of Kim Jong Il in the capital and local areas of Ecuador on the occasion of the Day of the Shining Star (his birth anniversary).
