S. Korean Yonhap News Discloses U.S. Backing for Japan's Nuclear Weaponization

Pyongyang, January 21 (KCNA) -- The United States encouraged Japan to go nuclear in the late 1950s, according to the south Korean Yonhap News on Jan. 18.

The fact was disclosed by the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff secret documents found at the U.S. National Archives.

According to a document worked out on Feb. 17, 1958, the U.S. imperialist aggression forces and Japan "Self-Defence Forces" staged Fuji, a joint map exercise simulating the use of nukes from Sept. 24 to 28, 1957.

A document dated Sept. 17, 1958 contained words that the U.S. has an intention to assist its ally with nukes and that Japan's will to build up its capacity of applying them is important.
