U.S. Plans Deployment of More Warships in Waters off Korea
Pyongyang, January 20 (KCNA) -- The U.S. is mulling deploying ultra-modern Aegis warships in Yokosuka base, Japan this summer, according to Yonhap News of south Korea on January 17.

It announced it would deploy two Aegis warships with ballistic missile attack capability in the base by 2017.

The south Korean media comment that this is part of the U.S. policy of rebalancing Asia which attaches importance to engagement in the Asia-Pacific region.

The U.S. is deploying all types of warships including destroyers and subs equipped with Aegis system in the Pacific and introducing new type hardware to its military bases in Japan under the pretext of "missile threat" from the DPRK.

Last year the U.S. Department of State announced its troops in Japan would automatically be involved in case of contingency on the Korean peninsula without prior discussion with the Japanese government. The U.S. moves for arms buildup in the area around the Korean peninsula are a serious provocation that can hardly be overlooked.
