National Schoolchildren's Sports Contest for Jongilbong Prize Opens
Pyongyang, January 20 (KCNA) -- The 41st National Schoolchildren's Sports Contest for Jongilbong Prize opened at the Basketball Gymnasium in Chongchun Street Tuesday.

The contest will draw more than 10 000 youth and students selected from provinces. Divided into groups of senior secondary schools and junior secondary schools and primary schools, its participants will compete in 17 events including basketball, volleyball, table tennis, Taekwon-Do and ssirum (Korean wrestling). It will be held in Pyongyang, Phyongsong City, South Phyongan Province, Hamhung City, South Hamgyong Province and Sariwon City, North Hwanghae Province from January to August.

The opening ceremony was attended by Kim Sung Du, chairman of the Education Commission, officials concerned, officials of the youth league and school youth and children.

Jon Yong Nam, chairman of the Central Committee of the youth league, made an opening speech.

At the end of the ceremony there was a basketball match between boys of Kang Ban Sok Senior Secondary School and Undok Senior Secondary School of Hanggu District of Nampho.
