Crackdown upon Progressive Activists Slammed
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- Organizations in south Korea including the Association for Supporting Prisoners of Conscience of the Family Movement for Realizing Democracy and the Christian Joint Measure Committee issued a joint statement on Jan. 14 denouncing the authorities for cracking down upon progressive activists, according to the south Korean internet newspaper Jaju Minbo.

The statement accused the regime of expelling a Korean professor in the U.S. and finally arresting Hwang Son, representative of the Forum for the Study of Politics Desired.

The present regime is mistaken if it calculates it can tide over its ruling crisis through the suppression of the pro-reunification progressive forces, the statement said, adding: The struggle to foil the regime's suppression under the pretence of security will kick off like a storm before long.

The statement demanded the present regime set free at once Hwang Son, who was arrested under the pretext of "following the north."
