Big Efforts Paid to Developing Natural Energy in DPRK
Pyongyang, December 13 (KCNA) -- The DPRK has paid big efforts to developing hydraulic, wind, geothermal and solar energy.

In this regard, Ri Myong Son, director of the Natural Energy Institute under the State Academy of Sciences, told KCNA:

The country has stepped up the development of natural energy in a far-sighted way.

As a result, cascade power stations are now under construction along the River Chongchon and a number of minor hydro-power stations took their shapes in Jagang and Kangwon provinces. A research is now underway to build tidal power stations in the western coastal area while a project being carried on to install wind-driven generators with the capacity of over 300W in rural and mountainous areas of the country.

Last year witnessed more than 7,000 solar greenhouses built across the country.

The Ryongsong Machine Complex has recently produced large-capacity geothermal equipment, the first of its kind in the DPRK, thus laying a firm foundation for air-conditioning dwelling houses, greenhouses and public buildings with natural energy.

Samjiyon County has pushed ahead with preparations to introduce geotherm-heating system in its township.
