DPRK Strives to Develop Space Science and Technology
Pyongyang, December 11 (KCNA) -- A seminar on space science and technology took place at Kim Il Sung University in the DPRK on Wednesday.

The seminar marked an important occasion in making a rapid progress in the nation's space development.

In this regard, Jong Tong Gil, deputy department director of the National Aerospace Development Administration, told KCNA:

The seminar was aimed to develop the space science and technology of the country onto a higher level through the presentation of papers and scientific interchanges on basic theories and application related to the space science and technology, including the technology of manufacturing and launching satellites and carrier rockets.

What drew special attention of its participants were papers on the matters arising in perfecting the technology of manufacturing satellite and carrier rocket in a Korean style and applying to various domains of the economy the satellite-based GIS and image processing technologies.

Highly appreciated at the seminar were the papers on technological problems arising in developing carrier rockets, earth observation satellites and working communications satellites.

The seminar gave a conviction that the country would surely turn into a satellite power.

Kim Kum Chol, a teacher of Kim Chaek University of Technology, said:

I presented to the seminar a paper on the new spacecraft structure designing method, which is of importance in developing our satellites for peaceful purpose. I will work harder to perfect this method and thus contribute to the country's space development.
