S. Korean Authorities Urged to Make Apology and Reparation for Massacres of Civilians
Pyongyang, December 4 (KCNA) -- The south Korean joint fact-finding group for unearthing remains of civilians killed during the Korean war which consists of the Institute for National Studies and other organizations held a press conference in Seoul on Dec. 2 at which it demanded the "government" make an apology and reparation for the massacres of civilians, according to KBS of south Korea.

On February 24 the fact-finding group started the work for unearthing remains of civilians mercilessly killed during the June 25 Korean war. In this course remains and relics of civilians were discovered in Jinju, South Kyongsang Province in March.

Bereaved families and members of civic and public organizations demanded an apology and reparation for the massacres of civilians committed by the Syngman Rhee regime in the past but the present authorities have not taken any measure.

Disclosing this fact, the joint fact-finding group said it would conduct the work for unearthing remains in the future, too, and probe the truth about the mass killings of civilians.

It also demanded the "government" opt for probing the truth at an early date, make an apology to the bereaved families and institute a law to make reparation.
