Disarmament Is Prerequisite to Ensuring Global Peace and Security: Rodong Sinmun
Pyongyang, November 1 (KCNA) -- Mankind can never take the road of its development in the peaceful world unless disarmament is realized, says Rodong Sinmun Saturday in an article.

The Korean Peninsula and the rest of Northeast Asia are fraught with the greatest danger of a war and the issue of ensuring peace in Northeast Asia which assumes a complicated and special nature due to intervention by big powers and the UN is directly linked with the issue of ensuring global peace and security, the article notes, and goes on:

It is none other than the U.S. which is working hard to ignite a new war by escalating the tension on the peninsula and disturbing peace. U.S. nuclear weapons and WMDs are massively stockpiled and its huge forces are present in this region.

This is threatening peace and security not only in the Asia-Pacific but the world.

The withdrawal of the U.S. forces from south Korea is a prerequisite to the disarmament on the peninsula. The U.S. forces in south Korea are the root cause of an arms race and the danger of a war in the peninsula as they are aimed to invade the DPRK to all intents and purposes.

Nuclear disarmament should aim to totally eliminate nuclear weapons worldwide and, for the present, there should be an international legal document with binding force calling for a total ban on the use of nuclear weapons and providing an unconditional guarantee for non-use of nuclear weapons against non-nuclear weapons states.

The U.S., which was the first to use nuclear weapons in the world and is the biggest possessor of nuclear weapons in the world, should take the lead in effecting nuclear disarmament.

The DPRK will positively join in the regional and global activities for disarmament and the world peace-loving people's struggle being under way as a major link in the chain efforts to shatter the imperialists' aggression and war moves.
