S. Korean Authorities Slammed for Extending Transfer of Right to Wartime Operation Control
Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- Members of 50 organizations of south Korea including the People's Action for Peace against War and the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification held a joint press conference outside the Ministry of Defense on Oct. 22 opposing the moves to extend the transfer of the right to wartime operation control (OPECON).

A press release was read out there.

It accused the south Korean military authorities of requesting foreign forces to extend the transfer of the right to OPECON.

The U.S. is mulling keeping hold on the right in a bid to operate missile defence system in which south Korea and Japan would take part and push forward the formation of the triangular military alliance in its interests and thus hold hegemony in Northeast Asia, it said.

It urged the south Korean authorities to take over the right immediately and stop the moves for concluding a military agreement with Japan.

At the end of the press conference the organizations thrust the papers signed by more than 20 000 persons against Japan's rearming and the conclusion of a military agreement between south Korea and Japan to the Ministry of Defense and U.S. and Japanese embassies in Seoul.
