Inter-Korean Buddhists Mass for Reunification Held
Pyongyang, October 13 (KCNA) -- The north-south joint Buddhists mass praying for country's reunification to mark the 7th anniversary of the restoration of Singye Temple on Mt. Kumgang took place at the temple on Monday.

Present there were office-bearers of the Central Committee of the Buddhist Federation of Korea, monks of Singye Temple and believers from the north side and those of Buddhist Jogye Order from the south side.

A Buddhist ritual was followed by speeches. Then a joint prayer of the north-south Buddhists praying for the country's reunification was read out.

The speakers said that it is seven years since Singye Temple was restored to its former glory thanks to the concerted efforts of the Buddhists in the north and the south, but it is not performing its desired role as a key Buddhist temple for reunification.

They called on Buddhists in the north and south to pool their will and efforts and turn out in the practical actions for improving the north-south relations and paving the way for tour of Mt. Kumgang and thus make the temple a seminary for achieving reunification through national harmony based on Buddhism.

The joint prayer clarified the fixed will of the Buddhists of the north and south to work hard to defuse the danger of war and achieve durable peace and reunification on this land, regarding the north-south joint declaration as guidelines for national reunification and the light of Buddhism.

At the end of the mass, the Buddhists in the north and the south toured the area of Kuryong Pool.
