Tangun, Ancestral Father of Korean Nation
Pyongyang, October 3 (KCNA) -- Tangun is the ancestral father of the Korean nation who built Ancient Korea (early 30th century B.C.-108 B.C.), the first country in the East, with Pyongyang as its capital.

He was once known to be a mythical person, but was ascertained to be a real being at last, thanks to the energetic guidance of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il.

In order to set right the history of Tangun and Ancient Korea, distorted by the Japanese imperialists during their colonial rule over Korea, President Kim Il Sung saw to it that King Tangun's mausoleum was discovered. And he had guided the reconstruction of the mausoleum, personally examining its miniature, until the last moments of his life.

Leader Kim Jong Il took a series of state measures for the discovery and confirmation and ensured that the mausoleum was reconstructed splendidly as befitting one of the ancestral father of the nation.

Inspired by their deep attention, historians in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea succeeded on October 2, Juche 82 (1993) in unearthing the mausoleum and remains of Tangun at the foot of Mt. Taebak located northwest of the Kangdong County Town, Pyongyang, and proving in a scientific way that Tangun was the real father of the Korean nation.

The mausoleum was reconstructed in less than one year after the ground breaking on a site covering 45 hectares and its unveiling ceremony held on October 11, 1994.

A 2014 event for celebrating the Foundation Day of Korea took place in front of the Mausoleum of King Tangun on Friday.

At the event, Ri Tong Je, chairman of the Association of Koreans in Japan for Peaceful Reunification, told KCNA that the Mausoleum of King Tangun is the sacred place of the Korean nation and Pyongyang is the Holy City of Korea.
