Minju Joson Marks World Maritime Day
Pyongyang, September 25 (KCNA) -- Today is World Maritime Day.

Every year on this day the DPRK and other members of the International Maritime Organization conduct diverse activities on relevant themes, says Minju Joson Thursday in an article.

The theme for this year's World Maritime Day is "Effective Implementation of Convention of the International Maritime Organization."

It is important to modify and supplement various conventions as required by the developing reality and steadily carry out the work for their thorough implementation, the article notes, and goes on:

As a member of the IMO the DPRK acceded to various conventions such as "international convention on security of people at sea", "international convention on convenient navigation at sea" and "convention on civil responsibility for damage by ship oil contamination" and has sincerely implemented them for more than three decades. It is striving hard for the safe voyage of all ships operating in the territorial waters of the DPRK and for the prevention of sea contamination.

Last November the DPRK acceded to the "international convention on mobile satellite organization" as part of its efforts to make an active contribution to the international cooperation in the field of maritime communications.
