U.S. Forces' Withdrawal from S. Korea Is Required by Trend of Times: KCNA Commentary
Pyongyang, September 12 (KCNA) -- Koreans are becoming increasingly vocal demanding the withdrawal of the U.S. troops from south Korea.

This is because the U.S. troops' presence in south Korea is a main factor of disturbing peace and security on the Korean peninsula and in the rest of Northeast Asia.

The U.S. troops illegally occupied south Korea under the pretext of "disarming the Imperial Japanese army" after the Second World War. For nearly seven decades they have taken the lead in carrying out the U.S. strategy for confrontation and war on the peninsula and in other parts of Northeast Asia.

The U.S. troops in south Korea are neither forces under the control of the United Nations nor peace-keeping forces dispatched to dispute-torn areas according to the UN resolution.

The purpose of their presence and objective of their operations are to invade the DPRK and hold a military edge in Northeast Asia.

What is the most grave in their activities are the joint military drills as they cause a vicious cycle of tensions on the Korean peninsula.

The joint military drills staged with the U.S. forces in south Korea playing a major role are very dangerous saber-rattling which may bring catastrophic consequences to the Korean peninsula in the light of their nature, scale and frequency.

They have staged at least 18 000 war drills and joint military maneuvers against the DPRK in south Korea and in its vicinity since the ceasefire, counting only those opened to media.

The U.S. shifted the pivot of its strategy to the Asia-Pacific region from Europe in recent years. It is intensifying large-scale war drills with the south Korean puppet warmongers, directing the spearhead of attack to the DPRK.

They are openly staging war drills for "occupying Pyongyang" with strategic nuclear bombers, aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines involved, while applying "tailored deterrence strategy" for preemptive nuclear attack on the DPRK.

The U.S. troops in south Korea are the root cause of disaster as they create constant instability of the situation not only on the Korean Peninsula but in the rest of Northeast Asia.

The international community is becoming evermore vocal demanding the withdrawal of the U.S. troops from south Korea which are harmful to ensuring peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and in the region.

The Strategic Studies Institute affiliated to U.S. Army College of War recently made public a report which underscored the necessity to reexamine the issue of the presence of the U.S. forces in south Korea as it is the old one based on the logic which has been preserved without any reassessment after the Cold War.

The CSIS, AEI and RAND, etc. in the U.S. called strategy think tanks advanced this view.

Not only south Korean public and international community but American public call for the pullback of the U.S. troops from south Korea because it reflects the demand of the times.

It cannot but be something anachronistic that the presence of the U.S. troops in south Korea is going on even today when the international relations have undergone a dramatic change in Northeast Asia since the demise of the Cold War era.

There is no justification for the U.S. to keep its aggressor forces in south Korea.

The U.S. should withdraw its troops from south Korea as early as possible.
