Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Work Marked
Pyongyang, September 3 (KCNA) -- A meeting was held at the Pyongyang Grand Theater Wednesday to mark the 40th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's work "On the Art of Opera".

Present there were Pak Chun Nam, minister of Culture, and officials, creators, artistes, teachers and researchers in the fields of arts and art education.

An Tong Chun, chairman of the C.C., the General Federation of the Unions of Art and Literature of Korea, made a report.

The reporter said that Kim Jong Il in his famous work "On the Art of Opera" published in September, Juche 63 (1974) systematized his overall idea and theories on the building of the Juche-oriented opera.

He regarded the establishment of Juche in the art of opera as the main principle to be held fast to in the opera revolution and clearly underscored the need to adhere to the principles on ensuring the party spirit, the working-class spirit and the popular spirit and properly combining the ideological value and artistry in the creation of operas and abide by the principle of speed campaign and collectivism.

The work also clarifies theoretical and practical issues arising in creating opera music and making artistic representation such as verse-song as the main means of the opera, its advantages, characteristics and role of pangchang, feature of opera orchestra and its artistic representation.

The reporter referred to an important duty facing the field of art of opera to thoroughly carry out the tasks set forth in the letter supreme leader Kim Jong Un sent to the participants in the 9th National Meeting of Artistes.

He called upon all creators and artistes to turn out as one in the efforts to usher in a new heyday of literature and art under the uplifted banner of creating the Korean speed, bearing in mind the noble plan and intention of Kim Jong Un.
