National Sports Contest of Workers Opens

| Pyongyang, August 20 (KCNA) -- A national sports contest of workers opened with due ceremony at the Basketball Gymnasium in Chongchun Street on Wednesday in the run-up to the 54th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's start of the Songun revolutionary leadership. Participants in the contest, which will run through August 29 in various gymnasiums here, will compete in football, shooting, Taekwon-Do, hand-grenade throw and 400 m hurdle race. Present at the ceremony were Choe Ryong Hae, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials concerned, officials and members of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea (GFTUK) and players selected in provinces. Hyon Sang Ju, chairman of the Central Committee of the GFTUK, made an opening address to be followed by speeches. |
