After embarking upon the road of anti-Japanese revolution, Kim Il Sung set forth the unique line of nationwide armed struggle which calls for liberating the country through a nationwide, organized and active resistance war against the Japanese imperialists.

In the early period of the armed struggle, he had gained much experience in putting the people of guerilla zones under arms.

On the basis of the experience, he organized the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland to develop the anti-Japanese armed struggle into a nationwide resistance.

In September Juche 26 (1937), he made public "An Appeal to Compatriots throughout Korea", which called upon all Koreans to turn out in a nationwide struggle against the Japanese invaders.

As part of preparations for all-people resistance, he advanced into Sinhung, Phungsan and other areas of the homeland with a group of the main unit of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army (KPRA).

He also inspected temporary secret bases in Mt. Kom, Kyonghung County and in Puryong County, North Hamgyong Province to indicate the ways for organizing armed corps.

Under his energetic guidance, many armed corps such as the Kkachibong People's Armed Corps in Hoeryong, the Worker-Peasant Armed Corps on Mt. Kom and the People's Armed Corps in Rajin had been formed in different parts of the homeland.

In 1942, there were more than 180 anti-Japanese underground organizations in the homeland with over half a million of people involved.

On August 9, 1945, timing with the KPRA units' general offensive towards the homeland started by the order of Kim Il Sung, armed corps throughout the country began attacking Japanese forces and police stations, thus making big contributions to accomplishing the historic cause of national liberation.
