Withdrawal of Policy of Opening Rice Market Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, July 22 (KCNA) -- The Pusan and South Kyongsang Provincial Federation and the South Kyongsang Provincial Peasants Solidarity under the Federation of Peasants Associations of south Korea held a press conference outside the South Kyongsang Provincial Office on Monday at which they strongly protested the authorities' moves for totally opening rice market, according to the south Korean internet newspaper Voice of People.

The organizations denounced the authorities for deciding to open rice market, saying that the total opening of rice market will lead to collapse of agriculture.

They demanded the authorities immediately withdraw the arbitrary policy of opening rice market.

They declared that they would call the authorities to account for self-righteous acts and fight it out to defend food sovereignty.

As they tried to stage a tent strike the police blocked the setting up of tents. Enraged at this, the organizations said they would rebuild tents and launch a long-term strike in protest against the authorities' policy of opening rice market.
