On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of demise of the President, I am recalling with deep emotion the life of the President, the peerless patriot who defeated formidable U.S. and Japanese imperialist enemies in one generation, achieved the historic cause of national liberation, built a society of single-minded unity and devoted himself to achieving the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea till the last moments of his great life.

The position and role of the President in the history of the Korean nation are great, indeed.

The President led members of the Korean nation to always hold high the banner of the great national unity to achieve independence and sovereignty of the country and put an end to the national division, regardless of differences in ideology, religious belief and political view.

During the days the July 4 joint statement was adopted and the three principles of national reunification, the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo and the ten-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation were advanced.

The President examined the document related to national reunification even in the last moments of his great life and left his historic autograph on it.

The historic cause of national reunification to which the President devoted himself is being successfully carried forward under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Un, first chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK.
