DPRK Benefits from Agro-Forestry Management
Pyongyang, July 16 (KCNA) -- Various units in the DPRK are now gaining profits in forestation and agricultural production through introduction of the agro-forestry management method.

This year Songchon County, South Phyongan Province, has introduced the method in forest area of 100 more hectares than last year.

The county planted and cultivated black alder, Aronia melanocarpa, walnut, chestnut and other trees together with maize, beans, sweet potato, groundnut and other crops in the area of several hundred hectares last year alone. As a result, those trees' rate of rooting was more than 98 percent and the speed of their growth 1.7 times as compared with the previous year while hundreds of tons of crops were harvested.

Kujang County, North Phyongan Province, has ensured the rate of rooting at 100 percent through the agro-forestry management.

Last year, it planted 126 000 trees of economic value in mountains of 600 hectares while cultivating various crops there to increase the fertility of soil.

Teachers and researchers of the Kanggye University of Agriculture and Forestry succeeded in creating meadow through agro-forestry management for 7-8 years. The feed grass' rate of rooting there is 100 percent and its yield more than 2 times higher.
