Severe Drought Persists in DPRK
Pyongyang, July 14 (KCNA) -- A long spell of severe drought continues in the DPRK.

According to data available, North and South Hwanghae, South Hamgyong, Kangwon and North and South Phyongan provinces and Pyongyang City have witnessed 84-220 mm rainfall, only 28-54 percent of the average, from January to July 13.

In particular, the rainfall reached 28-45 percent of the average in all eastern and western coastal areas, including Yonbaek, Jaeryong, Hamhung and Yoldusamcholli plains.

The average temperature in the period was 9-10.4 degrees centigrade, 1.4 to1.8 degrees higher than the average.

Yonbaek, Hamhung and Onchon plains and farmland in Thaethan County have been badly damaged by severe drought.

Measures have been taken to prevent drought damage in all parts of the country.
