Korean Book, Photo and Handicraft Exhibitions Open in Russia
Pyongyang, July 12 (KCNA) -- Korean book, photo and craftwork exhibitions opened in Irkutsk and Sakhalin regions of Russia on July 2 and 4 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of demise of President Kim Il Sung.

On display at the venues of the exhibitions were photos documenting the revolutionary career and exploits of the President, works of the peerless great men, books and photos introducing true appearance of Songun Korea and handcrafts associated with wisdom and talents of the Korean people.

Present at the opening ceremonies of the exhibitions were personages of different social standings and masses in the regions. Staff members of the DPRK consulate general in Nakhodka and officials of different units of the DPRK working in Russia were present there on invitation.

The participants laid floral baskets and bouquets before the portraits of the smiling President and leader Kim Jong Il and paid tribute to them.

The chairman of the Irkutsk Region Legislative Assembly referred to the significance of the exhibition. The Russian people are remembering the undying exploits Kim Il Sung performed for the development of the Soviet Union-DPRK and Russia-DPRK relations and the cause of global independence, he said.

The vice-mayor of Irkutsk said that the exhibition will serve as an occasion for developing the Russia-DPRK relations, deepening understanding and confidence between the peoples of the two countries and helping the Russians know better about the DPRK.

A section chief of the Ministry of Culture of the Sakhalin Region government expressed the will to more actively wage colorful cultural events conducive to developing the friendly relations between the two countries in the future, too.
