World Blood Donor Day Observed in DPRK
Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- There took place an event to mark World Blood Donor Day at the National Blood Center under the Ministry of Public Health in Pyongyang on Monday.

It was attended by medical workers, voluntary blood donors and employees of the center.

Also present there were staff members of missions of international organizations here including the acting representative of the WHO mission in the DPRK and the delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies working in the DPRK and staff members of foreign embassies here.

The speakers referred to the significance of the World Blood Donor Day and blood transfusion services now under way with the help of the WHO and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

They noted that the blood transfusion was an important and essential work for saving people's lives and curing sick people's illness.

They called for brisk blood transfusion in line with the subject of the WHO this year.

Voluntary blood donors were presented with souvenirs.

After watching a performance given by the art squad of Pyongyang City, the participants looked round photos showing successes made in blood transfusion of the DPRK. They also had sports and amusement games.

World Blood Donor Day was also marked in provinces that day.
