New Species of Pear Bred in DPRK
Pyongyang, June 12 (KCNA) -- Scientists of the Academy of Agricultural Science of the DPRK has bred a new high-yielding variety of pear.

It was named Sukchon pear, which begins to flower from mid-April and be ripe between early and mid-September. It bears fruits a year after transplantation and yields 1.7 times more fruits than the existing ones after four years.

The round-shaped pear weighs 350 grams on an average and 600 grams at its maximum. It is full of juice with high sugar content.
