S. Korean Organization Denounces Authorities' Suppression of People
Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- The Citizens Solidarity for Democratic Society of south Korea released a commentary on June 2 condemning the authorities for intensifying the suppression of people to evade responsibility for the ferry Sewol tragedy.

The commentary accused the "government" of making haste to gag the people and media right after the occurrence of the disaster.

It continued:

Police, the Broadcasting and News Agency Committee, ministries and agencies pressurized the people to stay put as the captain of the ferry did, threatening to strongly deal with the groundless rumors.

To cite an example, police hurled more than 1 000 investigation agents into a wholesale whirlwind of investigation, claiming they censored stories about the ferry posted on internet to cope with acts of "spoiling the atmosphere of mourning" from the beginning of the disaster.

The Ministry of Education sent urgent official documents to the city and provincial education agencies, threatening to punish the students posting articles on the ferry sinking accident and the Broadcasting and Communication Examination Committee also demanded the deletion of a video conveying foreign news.

The facts that the regime directly controlled the media are being disclosed one after another. The suppression of the freedom of expression caused a delay in coping with the accident.

If the regime prevents the people from raising problems, it will cause the second disaster.
