Anniversary of Victorious Pochonbo Battle Marked
Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- Today marks the 77th anniversary of victory in the battle of Pochonbo, which was commanded by President Kim Il Sung in the period of the anti-Japanese armed struggle.

After occupying Korea, the Japanese imperialists had worked hard to deprive the Korean nation of its spirit and language in a bid to intensify its colonial rule.

Kim Il Sung led the main force of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army (KPRA) to advance into the northern border area of Korea in early June Juche 26 (1937) and attacked Pochonbo in the evening of June 4.

The battle gave the Japanese invaders the cold creeps. And it convinced the Korean people, who had thought Korea was dead, that their country was still alive.

In the wake of the battle of Pochonbo, Kim Il Sung victoriously led the battle on Mt. Kouyushui and the battle of Jiansanfeng, thus demonstrating the invincible might of the KPRA.

The news of the victorious battle of Pochonbo was headlined by local and foreign newspapers.

Pravda and Krasnoye Znamya of the Soviet Union and other newspapers and radios of China, Japan, France and other countries gave much space to the battle, under such titles as "Guerrilla Warfare in the Northern Area of Korea", "Defeat in Pochonbo", etc.
