Anniversary of Historic Anti-Japanese Battle Marked
Pyongyang, May 23 (KCNA) -- It has been 75 years since President Kim Il Sung led the battle in the Musan area of Korea to victory during the anti-Japanese armed struggle.

This military operation in May 1939 was of weighty significance as it gave the great hope for national salvation to the Korean people in the face of the false propaganda by the Japanese imperialist aggressors.

Upset by the victorious advance of the Korean revolution, the Japanese imperialists had intensified their fascist repression of the Korean people and the "punitive" operation against the Korean People's Revolutionary Army (KPRA) in the latter half of the 1930s. In the meantime they made a false propaganda that they "totally destroyed" the KPRA.

Under such situation, Kim Il Sung saw to it that the KPRA made a march from Nanpaizi to Beidadingzi in China to launch military actions against the Japanese imperialists in the homeland and instill the confidence in victory into the local people.

After making full preparations for the advance into the homeland, through battles with the enemy in Beidadingzi, he set forth a policy that the main forces of the KPRA should advance into the Musan area.

Accordingly, the main forces under his command rapidly advanced into the area through Chong Hill, Konchang, Pegae Hill and Lake Samji and along the Kapsan-Musan guard road, built by the Japanese aggressors in an aim to keep the KPRA from advancing into Korea.

Then, Kim Il Sung gave an order that the forces should advance toward the Taehongdan area to conduct a big battle with the enemy as well as stage military-political activities in different areas.

The victorious Musan area battle gave an impetus to the overall Korean revolution centered on the anti-Japanese armed struggle and brought a new peak to the development of the national liberation struggle.
